With each new story brings a new adventure ready to be discovered. This storyboard is intended for a 15-30 second animation advertisement, focusing on the feeling of excitement and adventure when reading a book.The core concept is “An Unexpected Adventure,” exploring how stories can bring the reader to an entire new world from imagination, after all, Candlewick Press can take their readers on an unexpected journey through their books, with each new story bringing more surprises and anticipation. The story follows the journey of a young girl, Hailee, as she falls into a fantasy world.

Story Development
After several weeks of constant revising and simplifying the story, it was finally simple enough to follow in less than half a minute yet intriguing and exciting enough to catch viewers attention. I tried several different perspectives and stories with the idea of falling into a new world before settling on a character literally tumbling into a fantasy world.

Character Design
As Candlewick Press focuses on children’s books, I wanted the story to feel whimsical and childlike, looking for inspiration in art styles from children’s books.
The protagonist, Hailee, was designed to be an adventurous young girl, who the audience could empathize with.
Process
To make the short story exciting and more dramatic, I decided to use extreme perspectives to frame the protagonist. To get the proper angles, I started with 3D references rendered in Cinema 4D, then lined and colored in Photoshop, using bright colors and simple textures to make it feel more hand drawn and welcoming.
