About
This story follows a family of cactus wrens, including the mother and four baby chicks. The youngest and smallest is constantly at a disadvantage, struggling to keep up with its siblings in getting food, flying, and overall surviving. However, it stands out from its siblings with its observational skills, and soon finds its place in its family by alerting and saving its family from an incoming predator, discovering its own party to play and what it can contribute to the survival of the family.Final Frames

Brainstorming
The theme for the project was “survival journey.” I wanted to create a story describing how everyone has their unique talents, and decided to build the story around a family of cactus wren, the protagonist being the smallest and weakest. Though she struggles to keep up with her siblings in fighting for food and flying, she stands out in other ways. She found her place in the family by noticing an attacking snake and alerting her family of the dangers, discovering that what she can contribute to her family's survival is her particularly strong observational skills.

Process
I decided to go with an almost watercolor like style, wanting it to seem constantly fluid and in motion. The way colors mix together would be symbolic of the wren family’s bonds as they help each other to survive.
